The
Florida State Brass Quintet
![]()
| The 2000 - 2001 academic year marks the 25th anniversary of the Florida State Brass Quintet. To commemorate a quarter century of music making, the group presented a series of eight concerts on a tour which included performances at major Schools of Music in the Midwest, and culminated with their second appearance at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Bryan Goff is the remaining founding member of the quintet, which was originally formed in 1976. Paul Ebbers joined the group in 1979, followed by John Drew in 1980. Michelle Stebleton came to the quintet in 1990, and doctoral student Scott Beckett has been with the group since 1997. |
Premier Performance
The quintet's program opened with Silverings, a work by Scott McAllister which which was commissioned by the FSU School of Music especially for this Silver Anniversary tour by the FSBQ. The premier performance was September 29, 2000 on the FSU School of Music Kalaideoscope Concert Series. |
First Modern Performance
Their concert program included the first performances in modern time of a recently discovered brass quintet from the 19th century, written by the French composer, Jean Bellon, shortly before 1850. For you brass quintet fans, you will notice that this pre-dates the Ewald brass quintets by 50 years! This work, Quintet No. 4, is from a series of twelve quintets by this composer which will be published soon by BIM Publications, Switzerland. These quintets represent a charming Romantic period addition to the repertoire for brass quintet. The quintet's performances also included: T.R. George - Quintet No. 1 |
