De Amerikaanse professor Charles R. Figley is een internationale authoriteit op het gebied van traumabehandeling.
Figley stond onder meer aan de wieg van de veteranenhulpverlening in de VS.

Een belangrijke rol speelde hij bij de humanitaire hulpverlening na de terroristische aanslag in New York, september 2001.

Hij heeft meer dan 186 publicaties op zijn naam staan waaronder 19 boeken.

WUSF (University of South Florida Public Radio) Program "The Brain Drain" included a panel discussion led by Joshua Stewart with former professor of traumatology and director of the Traumatology Institute at FSU Dr. Charles Figley, President of the Florida Association of Colleges and Universities Dr. Mike Cichalson, Florida Board of Governors Chair, Sheila McDevitt, and Florida State Representative Joe Pickens. Program first aired August 22.
