Please use this questionnaire to structure your proposal. Use the same subheadings in the

order they appear below. Reviewers will follow the same structure in evaluating your proposal

and more favorably evaluate those that clearly address each section.

a)      Will the book have any of the features that are especially outstanding or appealing?

 

b)      What are your general assumption about the focus of the book?

 

c)      Explain why there is a place for this book in its field of study?

 

d)      Will your book be written from an original perspective? Will your book on the “leading

 

      edge” of its field, or fairly standard in its approach?

 

e)      Will your book's the material timely?  What would be the book’s potential shelf-life?

 

  1. Competing Books/Literature in the Field: How does this work relate to literature already

published in the field?  With what book(s) does it most closely compete?  (Please indicate

author, title, publisher, and year of publication). If it is intended as a textbook, with what

other texts will it compete, and how does this book compare? Please compare and contrast

the proposed book with the book you now use (or those you are familiar with), or with the

other books in the field, addressing issues of content, length, and format, if possible.

 

  1. Table of Contents/Sample Chapter: Please provide a table of contents and a sample chapter

(or sample of your writing).

 

  1.  Coverage:  Discuss how, as illustrated by the table of contents, the book covers each

of the topics adequately.  Estimate how long the book will be, approximately.

 

8.   Writing Style and Level: How would you describe the writing style and the reading level that

will be adapted for this book?

 

  1. Format:  Do you suggest that your book be offered in a hardcover or softcover format?  Are

there any other features you would find appropriate or appealing in the format (e.g. a special

trim size or a spiral binding, etc.)?

 

  1.  Special Features: Are there any special features you plan to include that are particularly appealing?

  1. Is the book is intended as a textbook or workbook for support groups?  Please comment on

quality and amount of exercises, activities, end-of-chapter questions, and or  summaries you plan to include.

 

  1. Title: Please explain and justify your selection of your title title (and subtitle) for this proposed book. 

How does it accurately and clearly describe its content and intended purpose?  Is it a “catchy” title,

which would make you want to pick up – and read – the book?  Please explain.

Thank you. Please send your proposal to Charles Figley as soon as possible. When it is received he will review

it and ask for any needed clarification or changes before forwarding it on to the publisher. The publisher will

then send it out for review to leaders in the area of psychosocial stress. Their review process takes between

4 and 6 weeks.
