Dear Visitor,

Welcome to my Home Page. I have tried to make it as simple and user-friendly as possible. Please contact me if you have any questions or if I can be of assistance. This will be my last message before I move to Tulane University. I will be joining Tulane University for the fall semester of 2008 as the first holder of the Kurzweg Chair in Disaster Mental Health and be part of their effort to help rebuild New Orleans, physically, mentally, and spiritually. It will be quite a challenge but also a calling.

Above are links to my publications, credentials, descriptions of my programs of research, my doctoral students, and humanitarian efforts -- including Hurricane Katrina, my family, and more.

Among my passions, beyond my family and students is attending to the enormous needs of our current generation of military troops, veterans, and their families. No matter your opinions about war, you might be interested in helping FSU collegiate veterans or veteran organizations at other universities . You might be interested in veterans health care, know a little bit about the history of helping vets, or studying the immediate and long-term effects of war service for the warfighters or their families, let me know.  A recent report on the terrible conditions of these troops are captured in an Army Mental Health (MHAT4) report. There is an excellent book written by US soldier who survived a tour in Iraq . For the families of those deployed, Sesame Street has partnered with Walmart to offer a free Sesame Street DVD and kit. For ordering information: http://www.sesameworkshop.org/wpad/.

I have been a member of the academy since 1971. I enjoy academic life, particularly working with Ph.D. students on their dissertations and other projects. I learn from them as much as they learn from me. But my other passions involve understanding and helping others help the traumatized and themselves. I do this through my publications, the journal and the book Series I edit, and my off-hours training and lecturing throughout the world.

Most of my energies, however, are devoted my family, my courses, students, and research here, for now, at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida ( USA ) . Kathy and I will miss Tallahassee communities when we move in a month and a half.

I hope that my web site links are useful to you and would like to know what you think.

Sincerely,

Charles
