Welcome! In January 2002, the Department of History and the Allen Morris Endowment launched a new program called the New Deal Initiative. The NDI is dedicated to collecting, preserving, and making available for research materials on the history of the New Deal in Florida. One of the major projects of the New Deal Initiative is the collection of oral interviews with "veterans" of the New Deal. We want to identify and interview those who worked for New Deal agencies, those who received job training or educational benefits, and those who were employed by programs like the WPA and the CCC. Like World War II veterans, their numbers are rapidly dwindling and those important memories will then be lost to history. If you or someone you know has a New Deal story to tell, please contact the project director, Dr. Elna Green. Click here to send her email; or you may call Dr. Green at the History Department office: (850) 644-9531. In the coming months, this site will house an array of information on the history of the New Deal in Florida. Watch us grow! |
