FLORIDA PHOTOGENESIS: THE WORKS OF CREATIVE /EXPERIMENTAL PHOTOGRAPHERS IN FLORIDAFlorida State Museum of Fine ArtsOpening October 6th, 2000 | This exhibition grew out of a realization that a different sort of photography had happened in the State of Florida during the sixties and seventies of the last century. While most southern photographers had followed a path of documentary/high moderism a number of photographers in the Departments of Art at the University of Florida, Florida State and the University of South Florida had developed a strong national and international presence as experimental and creative photographers. This exhibition reviews work done at that time and presents more recent work as well. Van Deren Coke, Jerry Uelsmann, the estate of Todd Walker, Evon Streetman, Wallace Wilson, Doug Prince, Robert Fichter, George Blakely, Tyler Turkle, Oscar Bailey, and David Yager have all loaned work for this exhibition.
