Plans so far:
Phase I: Literature Review (Deadline: July 1, 2001)
This phase will review all of the world literature reporting the research findings of the assessment and treatment of children in the target age group associated with anxiety and anxiety disorders. The result of the review will enable the Project Team to identify and learn about the most successful (non-systemic) treatment program. As a result, the Team will seek consultation with the investigator most associated with this treatment and acquire their treatment manual for planning the research methodology of the this research program.Phase II: Assemble Final Draft of Proposal for Intrnal Review (Deadline: July 23)
This includes the FSU Office of Sponsored Research, the Institute for Health and Human Services Research, and the School of Social Work Dean. Submission deadline is July 25, 2001.Phase III: Begin to Write the Manual for the Most Successful Treatment (MST) and the CATs' Systemic Treatment Program (STP) and Initiate (pilot) pre-Phase I clinical trials (September 1- 10)
This requires acquiring a copy of the MST upon which to base the CATs STP. The scholar most responsible for the MST will be recruited to be part of the research team.Phase IV: Write First Draft of the NIMH Proposal (Deadline: September 15)
Reviewed by research team for feedback.Phase VI: Secure Funding (Decision by October 30 by CMHS, Submit proposal to NIMH February 1, 2002)
There is a very fast turn around time for CMHS funding. However, we also intend to seek funding from other sources, including foundations and the FSU Foundation.Phase VI Conducting the Study Starting with the Phase I Clinical Trial (CMHS funding: January 1, 2002; NIMH funding: August 15, 2002)
If funded there should be ample time to assemble the research team, acquire adequate space (e.g., Fridays at the Center for MFT), and equipment (e.g., additional video cameras and other related equipment).Phase VII: Report the Findings (begin by paper presentations in Fall, 2002 at ISTSS)
This includes but is not limited to a book that describes the CAT's STP method, results, and case examples. It is possible that we could interest a journal in a special issue devoted to this and related projects focusing on childhood anxiety.Back to the Childhood Anxiety Treatments (CATs) Project Page
