Human Response to Weapons of Mass Destruction
Purpose
Purpose of the program of research is to calculate the number of people
affected by a domestic terrorism attack and the psychobiomedical consequences,
both short and long-term. Following a meta analysis of the available data
a modeling program will be designed to estimate the medical and mental
health consequences of such an attack, using the Miami International Airport
as a reference context. Only $4,000 is sought to secure the necessary materials
and talent to propose a two year study.
Justification
The funding will provide just enough seed money to encourage the author
to develop a proposal to carry out the program of research. To date there
are no available calculations on the number of people affected by weapons
of mass destruction. Algarithims utilized in natural disasters will be
examined first. Using a panel of international experts, the project will
first design an equation resulting in the most accurate estimate of the
number people affected based on calculations of the number of those incapacitated
in the short and long-term and the life-threatening nature of the attack
or accident. The results of the study could help disaster management planners
calculate the number of hospital beds and the total of mental health and
health utilitzation, based on varying size of the weapon of mass destruction.
As a result, the community would be more prepared in the event of an attack
using a weapon of mass destruction.
Budget
$3000 Research Assistant for 3 months.
$1000 Supplies
Total $4,000
Justification
I would require an adept Ph.D. students to contact the experts in simulation
to specify the exact parameters and calculations necessary. Supplies required
include software, postage, and online costs for communicating with colleagues
who will collaborate on this project.
