DESCRIPTION:   Advanced exploration into the costume design process, including researching, script analysis, the costume designer's role though out the production process and design problems. A further exploration into costume rendering techniques including computer rendering.  Finally, basic instruction  related to textile and fabrics identification and characteristics.

CLASS FORMAT:  Seminar approach with discussions and visual presentations.  Exploration of the design elements and principles and how they relate to the costume designer, including analysis of costume design work. Project oriented classes, including design projects and rendering techniques.

MATERIALS:   9" x 12" or 11" x 14" drawing paper
                           9" x 12" or 11" x 14" tracing paper
                           9" x 12" spiral bond sketch book
                           Drawing pencils: HB and B. . .
                           Color pencils/markers/pastels (optional)
                           Watercolors
                           Watercolor paper--140 lb.
                           Watercolor brushes--size 5 and 7 round tip  Sableline quality

                           One Zip disc for computer rendering
                           3” loose leaf binder for textile swatches and class notes

and appropriate library texts for project research.

PROJECTS:  Will be of a visual format--renderings & swatches.  Project renderings will be assigned as semester progresses. (15% for each project--for a  total of 60%)

FABRIC NOTEBOOK:   An identification notebook of fabric samples (2" x 3") will be collected and organized.  Fabrics and fibers and their characteristics will be discussed.(10%)

GRADING:   Design projects       (60%)
                      Fabric notebook       (10%)
                      Textile test       (10%)
                      Computer rendering project     (10%)
                      Class participation--Figure sketch book    (10%)

ABSENCES:   Only ONE unexcused absences will be allowed.  Tardiness will not be tolerated.
Attendance--for each unexcused absences, final grade will be lowered by one whole grade-for example: an A becomes a B.

If for some reason you cannot be in class the day your assignment is due, it is your responsibility to submit your work before--not after--the scheduled class.
