MAYA YVONNE CARR's Website!

Ms. Maya Yvonne Carr entered this world on January 6, 2000 at 1:29 am EST! She was born at Tallahassee Memorial Regional Medical Center, where her mother, Carol, labored for six and a half hours to bring this precious princess to us!
Maya weighed in at a healthy 6 lbs., 13 ozs. at birth and measured 20.25 inches tall. She was (and is!) in great health and is very robust. She is also absolutely adorable! Maya now weighs about 42 pounds and stands about 40 inches tall. Or short. Yep, Maya is taking after her vertically-challenged parents thus far. But that’s why she’s so blamed cute.
To address some common questions, we think Maya currently looks like a perfect blend of both sides of the family, although she favored her mother and Lucinda Dickson, her maternal grandmother, when she was a small baby. It depends upon her mood and her expression at the moment. She has lips that are a cross between mine, Carol’s, her grandmothers’, and probably many other ancestors. Carol thinks she has my smile (minus a few teeth), and I agree. She also has Carr feet (long and wide with very long toes), and my ears. Her hair texture is a lot like Carol's: very soft, curly, and thick on top, less so on the sides and in the back. It doesn't look as if she will have the dimples common on Carol's side of the family, but you never know; they might be hiding under all that cheek chubbiness! Lately, Maya has been imagining that she has Carol's dimples.
Maya's first name is inspired by the example of internationally famous and incredibly talented poet/activist, Maya Angelou. Her middle name honors the memory of her great-grandmother, Yvonne Carr.
After five years (starting with Maya's conception), we still have weird sleeping patterns, but we are now able to get a decent night’s rest. Sometimes. :) Maya is currently enrolled in preschool, and loves her friends and teachers dearly. She loves to make and play with crafts, is really into music (including her piano lessons), and likes to imagine herself as a princess or a mommy. (We did not, by the way, encourage these roles; they come from playing with her friends, observing her parents, and watching certain movies.)
In short, Maya is your typical preschooler. Some relatives and friends believe she's atypical or above average--which makes us proud--but believe us, she can be just as sweet OR headstrong as any other child her age.
We like to say that Maya is our favorite comedian, because she has a lot of hilarious expressions, and knows how to use them to put us in stitches! She will also say things that are (unintentionally?) funny, but precocious. For example, when we were shopping for shoes recently, we drove to a store that didn't carry children's shoes at all. When her father remarked that "We went to the wrong store," Maya argued instead, "*You* went to the wrong store. I don't have a driver's license!" Her father was on the floor immediately.
Maya also enjoys playing the piano. She might not play what most people would consider melodies, but she can play rhythm, with both soft and loud touches. Her piano teacher has taught her "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" and "Mary Had a Little Lamb." Maya works at these almost every day, and is slowly getting better.
We would like to thank all of the family and friends who have sent good wishes, gifts, books, and their support ever since Carol got pregnant. If you would like to hear more details about Maya's daily life, please send mail to Darryl. We hope to hear from you soon!
THE MAYA PICTURE-RAMA!
After Maya was born, I scanned in a few dozen images of her for mass consumption. These are very old. Someday, I will update the picture pages to include thumbnails and full size graphics. First, I have to learn how to do this!
For now, though, click on the links below to go to different category pages, and then click on the links found therein! Please keep in mind that most pictures average around 50 Kb, so downloading each one might take some time on a slow connection. See below for information about newer pics!
These pics probably fall into one of the other categories, but in our opinion, they deserve to be classified on their own. They are what the title claims: Just pictures of Maya being her usual adorable self. This is for those web surfers looking for sheer cuteness. In the interest of serving our customers, we have cut out most of those pesky parental units and just let Maya be Maya. WARNING!: Not to be viewed with a soft heart.
Thanks to her mother's tireless efforts, Maya also has better designed, albeit somewhat dated, websites at Growthspurts.com and Babiesonline.com. These pictures include glimpses of Maya's first visit to California, of her visiting her friends, and of her celebrating a friend's birthday. Please sign the guestbooks on any of the sites and let Maya know how you feel about her!
Now that you've fallen in love with Maya too, you may go back to Darryl's Homepage!
