How Do You Spell Science?
All teams will be given the same 20 words to spell and define in the form of a spelling test during the morning competition. The top 6 scorers from the test will advance to the finals at 1:00 pm. The finals will consist of a spelling bee competition. Teams will be required to define the word they are asked to spell beginning with the fourth round.

Knock, Knock, Who's There?
Teams may contain up to two students. Teams will have a maximum of 45 minutes to complete the test. Time is not a scoring factor.

Metric Mastery
Rules online. No clarifications or revisions.

Mystery Architecture
Teams are advised to provide their own baseball which can be used during construction and for measurement, however it is not required. The event supervisor will have a baseball which will be available for teams to use during measurement only.

No Bones About It
Questions may be found at stations or in the form of an exam. Teams will have up to 2 minutes at each station. Including the exam portion, teams will have a maximum of 45 minutes to complete the event.

Pastamobile
Teams may have a maximum of 2 students. The ramp's length may extend up to 1.5 meters. Pastamobiles will be run on a gymnasium floor.
The ESO at JHS will use the following scoring method. Pastamobiles which lose their structural integrity (fall apart) will be penalized. Those pastamobiles which remain completely intact during their run will receive 100% of their distance score. Pastamobiles which suffer minor structural damage (small pieces broken) will be penalized 5%, thus receiving 95% of their distance score. Pastamobiles which, in the judge's opinion, lose over 1/4 of their structure during their run will be penalized 15%, thus receiving 85% of their distance score. Finally, those pastamobiles which lose over 1/2 of their structure during their run will be penalized 25%, thus receiving 75% of their distance score.

Picture This
All three team members must rotate as sketchers.

Reflection Relay
The preparation time has been reduced to 30 seconds for part I only. Therefore, teams which can align their mirrors to bounce the light beam off the target in part I in less than 30 seconds will receive a score of zero (0). Penalty time will begin at 31 seconds. For example, a team that takes 45 seconds to complete part one will receive a score of 15 (45 seconds - 30 seconds of allowed preparation time = 15 points). Teams must use the mirrors provided by Jacksonville High School for both parts. JHS will provide pocket mirrors for part I and standing mirrors for part II.

Science Bowl
All teams will take a written test with approximately 30 questions at 9:00 am. All 4 team members will take the test separately. Scores from all 4 team members will be totaled for the team score. The 4 teams with the highest scores will advance to the semifinals, a buzz-in style competition. In case of a tie in determining the semifinal teams, the team with the highest individual scorer will advance to the buzz-in round.
Two semifinal rounds will be played to determine the two teams in the finals. The highest scoring team from the morning test will face the fourth highest scorer at 1:00 pm. The second and third place scorers will compete at 1:20 pm. The semifinal rounds will consist of 20 toss-up questions or 15 minutes of playing time, whichever comes first. The semifinal winners will play in a championship round of 30 toss-up questions or 25 minutes to begin at approximately 1:45 pm.
All questions in the semifinals and finals will be 10 points each. Points will be tallied on a chalkboard or paper, and the scores will be visible to all teams. In case of tie when time is called, a best 2-out-of-3 toss-up question series will be played to determine the winner.
Third place will be awarded to the semifinal loser who scored higher on the morning test.
Team membership may change between the test, semifinals, and finals as long as the 2-2 ratio of boys and girls is followed.
The semifinal and final rounds will closed to spectators (including coaches).
