We worked on a definition of Power to help us understand how we as employees can affect positive change in an organization.  We extended our discussion to empowerment and how we can help others affect positive change as well.  Here is a statement about empowerment we came up with as a class from our notebook material, a video, and our discussions:

Empowerment Is

Empowerment begins by establishing clear goals and objectives by communication. It will have a formal and informal power base for the individual or group. The empowerment decision involve choosing the appropriate people for the goals based on skills, abilities, and willingness. The empowerment choice also  recognizes their skills and will give freedom for ownership of the responsibility and accountability.  Measures must be in place for the empowered to make fact based decisions, and clear expectations of outcome and ongoing support with participation should occur from top down within the organization.
