We worked on a definition of Power to help us understand how we as employees can affect positive change in an organization.  We extended our discussion to empowerment and how we can help others affect positive change as well.  Here is a statement about empowerment we came up with as a class from our notebook material, a video, and our discussions:

An EMPOWERED work force has the authority to make decisions on behalf of the organization, has accepted that responsibility, and has the knowledge, skills and abilities to accomplish the organization's Vision.  EMPOWERED employees can make informed decisions and are encouraged to challenge organizational policies and procedures, in an effort to accomplish the Mission.
