Open Enrollment   Level I   02/15/2000

An organization consists of living beings, not positions, so to provide transformational leadership, organizations must embrace the concepts of honesty, trust, special treatment, and courage (James Autry in his book Love and Profit, The Art Of Caring Leadership.)

From Love and Profit, this class said they learned:

Group 1:
Don't substitute communicating to a group what needs to be communicated to a few people.
There are no secrets in an organization.
Fair and equitable treatment does not mean treating everyone the same.
Power is given to you by people who trust you and it can be taken away.
Group 2:
In developing a leader, you must begin with good administrative skills and add to it trust, honesty, special treatment, and courage.
A leader should create an environment of support and not fear.
Group 3:
Personal feelings in work are inevitable.
Create an environment of support and not fear.
Management and leadership is about people.
You don't have to treat everyone the same, you must treat them fair and equitable.
There are no secrets.
Give people information.
Group 4:
Provide people with information, no-one does a worse job for too much information.
When all else fails, be courageous.
Group 5:
When you are angry, you are living in the past.  When you are fearful, you are living in the future.  Leaders should live in the now.
Have the courage to treat each employee individually and with trust.
Power is earned not imposed. When people raise their voice they are using intimidation and fear which is cowardly.
When it comes to discipline, be truthful, don't beat around the bush.

We worked on a little Vision, Mission, Goals, Objectives, Action planning -  excercise.  Each group Took one of the items of a strategic plan and as a class we wrote a plan for the human body. From this activity, we learned many pitfalls of the planning process and witnessed some human behaviors typical in a planning process that we should consider warding off in the future.  Here is the plan:

VISION
To be an organized functional organism that is intelligent and self - aware. It should be healthy, long-living, happy, independent, accepting, well balanced, understanding and trusting, both physically and emotionally.

MISSION
To contribute prosperity through one's individual job responsibilites and
coordinate, implement, and promote love, faith, charity, and peace among each
other.

GOALS
-Enhance self awareness of one's physical well being.
-Constantly being stimulated towards intellectual growth and mental balance.
-Maintaining a spiritual harmony within our self.
-Maintaining relations with one another in a healthy, happy environment.

OBJECTIVES
1) Revisit the vision and mission statement immediately, then annually.
2) The individual will draft a personal and professional development plan within six months.
3) The individual will participate in a job exchange for one week each year.
