Lexis-Nexis - Contains over one billion documents from governmental, legal and news sources.
LUIS - This is the web-based interface to FSU's libraries. When the web is slow, the better option is to Telnet to LUIS and use the Lynx-based interface.
IRIS Funding Opportunities Database - Is a comprehensive database of grants and scholarships.


Search Engines
Metacrawler - Sends your query to several search engines and returns you the collated and ranked list of relevant web pages.
AltaVista's Advanced Query - Let's you use boolean logic along with other advanced syntax.
Advanced Lycos - Let's you customize the search and the presentation of your search results.
Yahoo! - Has a smaller data base than most other search engines but does a great job of categorizing the relevant web sites.

Library of Congress - A good starting point for governmental information.
THOMAS - the United States Congress's official document release clearinghouse.

American Directory Assistance's People Search - Helps find individuals, including a map to their house.
ANYWHO - gets the address, phone, and e-mail of anyone in the world

MapQuest - lets you generate an online map of anywhere in the United States
Casey's Florida Map Page - over 100 maps of Florida

WHOIS1 - Shows the owners of a domain name.
WHOIS2 - another WHOIS search site for persons' e-mail addresses.
Liszt - Searches through a data base of e-mail list serves and use nets.

Census Bureau - Let's you dig through US Census statistics.
NUA Internet Surveys - Collates and annotates the latest Internet surveys.
Newslink - Homepage for the American Journalism review and a comprehensive listing of online newspapers.
New York Times on the Web - You must register for this free site and then can search for the latest NY Times story.
Hoover's Online - Contains updated company profiles of most major businesses.
