Hello:

My name is John Robert Braswell. I am glad you stopped by to visit my website. Let me tell you a little bit about myself. I was born on December 27, 1959 in Huntsville Alabama. My parents are absolutely fantastic! My dad is a professor at the FSU-FAMU Engineering School, and my mom is an interior designer. The best year in Braswell family history was probably 1963, because my brother was born, and we moved to FLORIDA. In 1965, my father became Department Chairman of Industrial and Systems Engineering at the University of Florida in Gainesville, and I've been a GATOR ever since. After six years in Gainesville, we moved to Fort Walton Beach on the Northern Gulf coast of Florida (amazingly beautiful).

After graduating from Fort Walton Beach High School in 1978, I returned to Gainesville were I graduated with a degree in history from the University of Florida in 1983. Between 1983 and 1990, I developed a small European auto import business, worked with my mom in family owned interior design company and traveled to Europe as often as I could. These trips allowed me to exploring my true love, "EUROPEAN CULTURE AND HISTORY."

In the Spring of 1990, I made my greatest trip through Europe. I bought an old Volkswagen with my friend Mark Anderson, and we set-out across East Europe just a few weeks after the Iron Curtain collapsed. We drove over 20,000 km (12,000 miles) through Germany, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Yugoslavia and Greece. We then took a ship to Crete where we spent Easter. After ferrying our car to Brindisi, we traveled through Italy, France, Spain and The Netherlands.

When I returned home in the fall of 1990, I started a masters program in International Relations at Troy State University. I completed my masters degree in June of 1993 and immediately went back to Germany to spend time with my girlfriend and future in-laws. While I was their studied German at the Goethe Institute.

In the fall of 1993, I entered the doctorate program in history at Florida State University. The following summer on August 30, I was married to my German sweet heart of eight years Claudia. During the summer of 1996, I passed my comprehensive examination, and I am currently working on my dissertation in Transatlantic Intellectual History.

I have been employed by Florida State University since 1995. I taught WOH 1023 (World History from 1300 to 1815), AMH 1000 (American Civilization), WOH 1030 (Modern World) and EUH 2000 (Western Civilization to 1300). I also taught EUH 1000 (Europe to 1715) at Tallahassee Community College . From April of 1998 to May of 1999, I worked for ACNS (Academic and Network Services) doing computer Training. I now work for the Office for Distributed and Distance learning (ODDL) providing computer training for Faculty.

I am glad you took time to learn more about me. If you have any questions or comments please email me.
