"To Do" List for Completion of Course

To complete this course, you need to complete the list below. All assignments are due by: December 9, 1995 (no excuses). Responses to #s 2, 3, 4, & 5 may be sent to me either by (a) your Home Page (remember the world is watching), (b) email, or (c) paper copy (my mail box is in 115 Stone and must be there by closing on December 8).

  1. Complete this phase of your Home Page. See suggestions for Electronic Portfolio. If Math Ed major, include some Mathematics Applications. for example, a carefully thought out screen using Geometer's Sketchpad. (Note: save as a screen, use GIF converter, & Fetch to your workspace, and include in HomePage reference.) (30 points)

  2. Software Awareness. Find at least 3 good software programs different from what we have used in class that could be used for instruction. There are a number of such software pieces on Vol. 2 (on the local area network) in 124 Stone. Write a paragraph about each, giving the name and telling why you like them. Note: in addition to characteristics listed in your course outline, some characteristics are listed under visualization and simulation programs in the Technology Education section. (10 points)

  3. You should include 5 principles for learning from Papert and your reactions. Some of you have asked for an example. (10 points) The following is an example:

      The simple moral is that learning explodes when you stay with it: A full year had passed before the effect in my mind reached a critical level for an exponential explosion of growth. The more complex moral is that some domains of knowledge, such as plants, are especially rich in connections and particularly prone to give rise to explosions of learning (pp. 103-104).

  4. Write a paragraph about a your vision or philosophy about teaching/learning and using technology in your instruction. (10 points)

  5. Your final assignment is to write a reflection of your reflections and learning progress throughout this course. (If you need copies of your earlier reflections, email me, & I will send you copies.) (10 points)

  6. SIRS will be administered during class on December 5th. Bring a #2 pencil.
