Goals for
EDE 5306: Current Trends and Issues in Elementary Education: Technology


The goals of this course are by the end of the course the student will:

  1. Perform a critical analysis of trends and issues related to the use of electronic technology in education.

  2. Use a computer for a variety of applications related to education, such as:

    • Integrated Software
    • Telecommunications (including the Internet and World Wide Web)
    • Hypermedia, including HyperStudio and HyperText
    • Telecommunications, Internet & World Wide Web
    • Instructional software awareness, selection, and evaluation
    • Changes in the Elementary Curriculum brought on by the presence of technology

  3. Explore uses of technology as integrative themes,

    • Communication
    • Knowledge search strategies
    • Data collection, organization, and representation
    • Problem solving
    • Visualization and imagery development

  4. Evaluate the potential effectiveness of computers and computer-related materials for educational applications.

  5. Organize and prepare materials that reflect rethinking an integration of technology into instruction.
