This course will focus around Integrating Computers and other Technology into the Teaching/Learning of Elementary and Middle School Mathematics.

Major Topics focused around Elementary and Middle School Mathematics:

• Survey of available software
• Uses of Interactive Video Disks, Calculators, and Multimedia Materials
• Uses of Technology for developing Problem solving, visualization, and critical thinking
• Classroom Management (e.g., how does one deal with one computer in a classroom?)
• Mathematics Resources on the World Wide Web/Internet
• Examination of the NCTM Curriculum & Evaluation Standards and uses of Technology
• Taking your class into the 21^st Century

By the end of the course, participants will design a mathematics program for their classroom/school with technology integrated throughout. Teams from a school are encouraged to participate. We will meet the class in the schools part of the time and will build from the interests and perceived needs of the participants.

This course can count for recertification in a number of areas, be part of a number of degree programs, as well as count as part of a College-Wide Technology Certificate Program.

The First Class meeting will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 8, 1997 in 124E, Stone Building, where we will identify interests, perceived needs, and school sites to visit.
