Go the The Official Olympic
Site. Go to 197
Countries (participating in the
Olympics) where there is a rather comprehensive data base about those
countries. Build a table to investigate the data base to find patterns for
the
following:
- Go to the United States to find data, such as:
- Population growth rate
- Birth rate
- Death rate
- Life expectancy at birth
- Total fertility rate
- Literatcy rate
- Ethnic divisions
- Type of government
- National product per capita
- Unemployment rate
- Search the data to find two other countries in two other continents
who are similar to the United States in the above data.
- Search the data to find two other countries that are ethnically very
different from the United States but otherwise are similar in other data.
- Find two countries that are ethnically very similar, but other data
are very different.
- Are there major differences in the death rates in various countries?
What is the oldest level? Youngest level?
- Are there major differences in the literacy levels in various
countries? What is the highest level? lowest level?
- Are there major differences in gender in relation to
life
expectancy? Literacy level?
- Are there countires where men live longer
than women? (If so, where?)
- Are there countries where the literacy level
of women is higher than men? (If so, where?)
- Where are the highest literacy levels? Lowest levels?
- Explore relationships among the data for the following:
- Are there relationships between fertility rates and life expectancy?
- Are there relationships between fertility rates and literacy rate?
- Are there relationships between fertility rates and National product
per capita?
- Massage the data further to pose at least three more significant
questons to pursue.
