Mentoring doctoral students and providing collaborative and independent opportunities for students to gain research experience is Dr. Burnett's passion. She was nominated twice, in 2005 and 2006, for the Outstanding Graduate Faculty Mentor Award. In addition to the Florida State University doctoral students, candidates and graduates described below, Ishe mentored four doctoral candidates from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, four from the University of Washington, and two from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill as the principal investigator for Project Athena.
Since receiving doctoral directive status in 1999, she has supervised 13 doctoral dissertations through to completion; has served as a member of an additional 11 committees, including 3 as outside member; and is supervising 7 doctoral students at various phases of their doctoral study. The list below includes those completed dissertations for which she served as major professor. In several cases she continued to collaborate with doctoral graduates (marked with an asterisk). She has also continued to collaborate with Laurie J. Bonnici, on whose committee she served as a member.
