Can anyone join the Circus?

Yes. The circus requires no special knowledge in order to join, and there are no physical requirements. The one and only requirement to be eligible is that you are a student at Florida State University, maintaining an acceptable GPA. In order to succeed at Flying High one must be willing to work hard, not only in their acts, but also at required work days such as tent rig.

Does the Circus perform over the summer?

Callaway Gardens is the summer home of the FSU Circus. Each year, between 25-28 students are selected to work at Callaway Gardens as performers and recreational counselors. Families go to Callaway Gardens and can register for the Summer Family Adventure Program for a week including access to PGA level golf courses, tennis, water skiing, beautiful surroundings and most importantly, an introduction to circus skills.

During the months of June, July, and August, the Callaway troupe peforms shows daily except Wednesdays. For complete information including showtimes, and summer registration info, please visit the Callaway Gardens web site.

Is it dangerous to be in the Circus?

Flying High maintains an excellent safety record. Students are taught that safety is the key element to all acts, especially aerial acts. Performers practice long hours with safety lines and spotters to ensure they learn a difficult trick properly and without incident.

The rigging in Circus is done entirely by the student performers and must be done correctly to ensure the safety of all members, including themselves.

How do we get the Circus to come to us?

The Flying High Circus will perform on the road for a number of sponsored events. Shows can last from 30 minutes in length to over 2 hours for all kinds of gatherings, fairs, public or private fund-raisers, or conventions. Whether its indoors, out-doors, or under our own big top, a single performance or two weeks worth of shows, Flying High will oblige. The troupe performs mostly around the southeastern United States, but has also traveled to the Bahamas, Canada, the Dominican Republic, Europe, the Virgin Islands, and the West Indies.
