Paul F. Marty is Associate Professor in the College of Information at Florida State University. He has a background in ancient history and computer science engineering, and his Ph.D. is from the Graduate School of Library and Information Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. From 1996 to 2002, he was Director of Information Technology at the Spurlock Museum.

Dr. Marty's research and teaching interests include museum informatics, computer-supported cooperative work, information behavior, and usability engineering. He specializes in the study of museums as sociotechnical systems, and is particularly interested in the social implications of introducing new technologies into the museum environment. His current research focuses on the evolution of sociotechnical systems and collaborative work practices in museums, the usability of museum websites, the evolving roles of information professionals in museums, the digital museum in the life of the user, and the digital convergence of libraries, archives, and museums.
