Geography Links
- : Why reinvent the wheel when someone else has done the hard work for you? The Geography Department at CU-Boulder has a terrific links page (with links to journals, academic departments, data sources, teaching materials, etc.). Assuming that they keep this updated, there's really no need for me to list any other geography links here.
Other Academic Links
- : Sure, it's geeky. But it's still the best place to go to get news about what's happening in academia (and a good source for listings of jobs outside your discipline).
- : At the last university that I was at, the president was dying to get us out of this organization. At the university I'm now at, the provost is dying to get us in. For an organization that no one outside of academic administration has heard of people sure make a fuss over it, so I thought it was worth putting up here.
- : Florida's a strange state. On the one hand, it's one of several states (around half) that are "open shop" (a/k/a "right to work") and where public employees are not allowed to strike. On the other hand, we're one of the very few states where faculty have collective bargaining across the entirety of the state universities. This means, that there are tons of opportunities to get our voices heard, but we have to work hard at it. That's why I'm membership chair and that's why, if you're one of my colleagues, you should join. Got it? OK, 'nuff said.
News Links
- : It's the homepage on my home computer. Some day I'll get a perfect 7 on the weekly news quiz.
- : This is where I tend to go after scanning the headlines on the BBC.
- : Sometimes I'll then move on to CNN to see how the same stories are played out in a more mass-oriented media; it's easier than watching TV.
- : This is news. Really.
- : This isn't news. Really. But sometimes it's useful anyway.
- : An excellent for following national-scale electoral politics. You're not bombarded with stories, but good ones are culled out and highlighted amidst the poll data.
- : The best-written news magazine out there, in my opinion. Not to be confused with Harper's Bazaar.
Tallahassee Links
- : It's not a very exciting web page, but Ion Sancho's so cool I wanted to give him and his organization a link.
- : I do some writing for these guys. Maybe some day I'll act for them. They're funny and, on occasion, truly brilliant, so check them out.
- : I should go to more of their stuff. The railroad depot is tiny and it's really loud when a train goes by, but you can't beat the atmosphere.
