Here's a brief photojournalistic account of my geographic explorations (to be read with film noir overtones)...

I'd been living life on the edge....staying just ahead of the law.
(OK, actually I was playing around at the Target in Watsonville, California, but the gangsta look's pretty cool, don't you think?)

The Geopolice were coming after me, led by their tireless sheriff, David "Social Justice in the County" Harvey.

So, I hopped on my trusty dinosaur and hot-tailed it out of town.

I followed my dream and headed West, eventually saving a banana slug from a slippery death on an on-ramp to the Golden Gate Bridge.

I continued West into the Pacific Ocean (hey, it's a social construct; I can do what I want there), where I had a near-death encounter with a ferocious sea lion.

I traveled through oceans large and small, deep and shallow, and I made the acquaintance of a very special goldfish.

I emerged from the ocean, but nothing much changed. I spent long hours in libraries around the world, thinking about the ocean.

I wrote books and articles about the ocean. I taught about it. But eventually, it overcame me. I became of the sea. This ocean thing was getting out of hand. I had to stop. I had to get away.

I hopped on my bicycle (by this time my dinosaur was extinct) and left the ocean behind me. I headed inland, on a desparate search for meaning in life. I knew there was something more.

I searched high and low, and then, amidst the hoodoos of southern Utah, I met Donna Jo.

We hiked, we biked, we made the classic "We could be on the Utah license plate" photo.

We glowed in our new-found happiness.

Eventually, we moved to the promised-land of Florida and raised a family that would make Anita Bryant proud.

Vector became my muse...

and Raster wrote Donna's dissertation.

We networked with Florida's movers and shakers.

I began making top secret presentations.

Eventually Governor Crist sent me on a trade mission to Taiwan. Things didn't work out, though, and I ended up with a job sifting sorghum.

A talent scout spotted me one day in the field while I was singing Taiwanese work songs, and the next thing I knew I had my backup singers lined up. Taipei, here I come! (click the photo for a video)

Well, my singing career went nowhere (if you clicked on the photo and listened to the video you'd know why), plus I realized that my talents were being wasted. So, I once again returned to my calling, teaching geography to Taiwanese first graders.

Somebody had a camera, and next thing I knew we were on the 1000 New Taiwan Dollar bill (they airbrushed me out of the photo though).

This is a continually evolving story
(and, in case you haven't figured out, practically none of it is true).

Check back again once I've had more exciting adventures
(or once I've collected more silly photos).
