Workshop content. This workshop will explore non silver printing. Participants will make negatives and positives either by hand or by lens forming to print on a variety of light sensitive surfaces. Commercial and hand-made emulsions will be used.

Drawing (additive and subtractive) on translucent materials. Mylar, glass, paper.
Found images. Two sided printing. Single sided printing (acrylic lifts).
Lens formed projected images.
Emulsions. Blue print, gum print, silver prints, Quick print etc. etc.
You will make example of each process. Since these processes can be used either on their own or in combination you will select a way of working that best suits you to create a coherent portfolio of images to be presented at the end of class.
In addition you will maintain a sketch/note book of ideas and procedures. I recommend a three ring binder for this as you can more easily assimilate a variety of materials: class hand outs, critical statements, sketches, notes on demonstrations, etc. etc.

Grades. Grading will be based on the level of development that you achieve, class attendance, class participation and your sketch/notebook. More than three unexcused absences lowers your grade one letter.

A. Excellent work showing outstanding conceptual
development and imagination, attention to detail and
craftsmanship (the means support the ends).
B. Good work showing conceptual growth, skill development
and craftsmanship.
C. Average work. Completion of all assignments, basic skills,
minimum consideration of assignments.
D. Poor work. Lack of class attendance and participation,
assignments frequently late or incomplete.
F. Unacceptable work. Deficient in all aspects. No attention
to the means or the ends.

Supplies. Supplies will be purchased as the semester progresses. These processes are out of the ordinary and obtaining the supplies require more initiative than most other courses. Names of sources and catalogs will be made available to you.
Ortho, panchromatic , direct positive films will be used to create "generations" of images.

Basic art supplies: brushes, paints, inks, papers, scrapers, scissor etc. etc. . Basic photo supplies: film and paper, hand towel, negative storage system, reusable 35 mm casettes, 4 x 5 film holders.

The following schedule is subject to change depending upon the progress of the class.
