Course Grading
Quizzes 10%
Projects 10%
Two Midterms 25 % each
Final 30%
There will be 6 to 8 announced quizzes during the semester and the
lowest quiz grade will be dropped. Quizzes are typically quantitative in
nature and give the student a feel for the types of questions on the regular
examinations. The final is cumulative over certain well-defined topics
covered in the first two sections of the course. Examinations are a mixture
of objective questions, problems and short answer essays. Except where
specifically noted, examinations stress materials covered in class so that
there is a premium on class attendance. Projects will involve research
on certain assigned companies.
Course Objective
The course is designed to provide a good understanding of the field
of investments while stimulating interest in the subject. The goal of the
course is to give the student an appreciation of what is involved in understanding
investment opportunities and making good investment decisions. In additional
to traditional descriptive materials, the course will stress the analytics
of investments to help the student to reason out investment issues for
themselves and thus be better prepared when making real-world investment
decisions.
