GENERAL INFORMATION |
Most of our graduate students receive financial aid in several forms.
Financial aid for qualified graduate students is available as:
Many of our faculty have grant or contract funding and hire graduate students as research assistants.
Through your coursework and through working with faculty on research, you obtain the skills to become a valued junior colleague!
Recent and current sponsors for our faculty research include:
|
IMPORTANT! PLEASE READ! Individual faculty who have these grants and contracts are the ones who commit research assistantship funding to individual students. The department does NOT do this and the Learning and Cognition Program Director does not do this. Please be assured that we routinely inform these faculty of the students we admit so that they may examine your file for funding consideration. |
There are also several centers at Florida State University who hire research assistants.
The Learning Systems Institute and the Center for Educational Research & Policy Studies hire student assistants.
The Center for Reading Research has received considerable funding for the immediate future which is emphasizing excellence in reading instruction. Awards include a sizable stipend and benefits. Access their link to find out more about their Predoctoral Interdisciplinary Training Program (PIRT) in Education Science.
See more information about our research centers in the College of Education HERE

Many private individuals, foundations, and companies have also established scholarships and fellowships for qualified graduate students. Criteria for these vary considerably. For example, some support students who have served as primary or secondary school teachers. Others are for students from a particular country.
We are also fortunate that North Florida
has an extremely reasonable cost of living. You will find pleasant housing
accommodations, groceries, and other amenities at low to moderate cost.

Because of the annual nature of much grant and contract funding, and fluctuations in funding from the state of Florida and Florida State University, we cannot always commit to fund an incoming student a specific amount or type of appointment several months in advance of their entrance into the Learning and Cognition program. We do our best to make these commitments. We do want you to know that such funding is an ongoing part of our program.
Since 2000, we have provided at least
partial support for every continuing student in the Learning and
Cognition program who has requested funding.

GENERIC TIP: There are many Internet sites, some of them referenced in the FSU sites above, that collectively discuss BILLIONS of dollars of fellowship aid. Many of these have very particular requirements so all you can do is explore them and see. Be very careful. Please thoroughly check any sources that look inviting because there are dishonest scams. Other than a very nominal application fee, avoid any source that requires you to pay them money! After all, their purpose should be to GIVE you money, not take it from you.
