PLEASE NOTE: Depending on your prior courses, we may recommend that you take EDF 5400. Descriptive and Inferential Statistics. This is NOT a doctoral course. However, you may need this course in order to do well in the subsequent courses listed above, which DO count toward your doctoral program.

Disciplinary Specialization/Context Minor – 9 hours

Advanced Courses – 12 hours total

• 3 hrs.  Advanced quantitative or qualitative analysis
• 3 hrs.  Measurement
• 6 hrs.  Additional courses in Educational Psychology or related area

Supervised Teaching – 3 hours. Students who seek university positions should register for supervised teaching and assist in the teaching of an appropriate course

Preliminary Exam

• Students complete an original research study and defend it before their supervisory committee. The study is expected to be suitable for potential publication in a journal--and most of them are, in fact, published! The Preliminary Exam (comprehensive)  usually takes place by the end of your second year.

• You will register for at least two credit hours during any semester in which you work with the faculty on your dissertation, and you must register for at least two credit hours during the semester in which you schedule your dissertation defense.

We suggest the following schedule for full-time students.
